Head of Department of Community Medicine

DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY MEDICINE

It  is  well  equipped  with  faculty  offices,  demonstration  room  and  a  state  of  the  art  museum,  Community Medicine  faculty  offices  are  situated  on  first floor. They  are  spacious,  well  furnished,  air  conditioned  and equipped with the facilities of computers and departmental library. Demonstration  room  provides  good sitting  arrangements  for  students  and  latest  audiovisual  technology. Museum  of  Community  Medicine  is  situated  on  the  ground  floor.  It  contains  all  the  required  models  and specimens which are displayed beautifully in glass shelves, cupboards & tables. Moreover walls of the museum are decorated with charts giving health education information and messages.

 

Objectives
Department focuses the attention of young future doctors to the emerging problems that pose a challenge to public  health  in  achieving  Millennium  Development Goals  (MDGs).  In  addition  to  training  in  Community Oriented Medical Education (COME) department aims to provide good care providers, communicators, policy makers and administrators with research oriented minds and leadership qualities. Medical  students after  successfully  completing his  Community  Medicine course  are trained in  community diagnosis of prevalent health problems and providing preventive, curative, social and rehabilitative services to the community with the aid of local technology and community participation.

Graduated from Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Prof. Dr. Naheed Humayun Sheikh obtained her fellowship in community medicine from College of Physician and Surgeons Pakistan. Presently she is enrolled as PhD scholar with University of Health Sciences, Lahore with thesis titled _Reproductive health behaviors of females in district Lahore & Impact of BCC (behavioral change communication)_She has 33 years teaching experience in the field of community medicine / public health at Fatima Jinnah Medical College, Lahore and Allama Iqbal Medical College, Lahore with 33 research papers and 51 training session to her credit. She is master trainer for CPSP and PHDC in workshop on Research, Epidemiology and Biostatistics. She developed training manuals in collaboration with ICRC and CIDASOHIP. She has participated in many national and international research projects. In collaboration with World health Organization  (WHO), Tetanus Toxoid vaccination coverage among pregnant women in district Lahore, Behavioral study for HIV among eunuchs in Lahore, Magnitude and determinants of noncompliance among Pulmonary TB patients under DOTS in  district  Lahore  and Magnitude and predictors of  Hepatitis B  and C infections, and their related knowledge, attitudes and practices among blood donor university students in district Lahore, Pakistan in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health, Islamabad; Measles vaccine coverage and field vaccine efficacy in district Lahore was studied. She is consultant for Higher Education Commission for curriculum development for MBBS. She is also consultant and examiner for FCPS, MCPS, Mphil, MHA, MMCH, MBBS & BSc-N at University of Health Sciences, Lahore & College of Physician and Surgeons Pakistan. The department under her guidance contributes a lot towards the academic and research activities of this institution by imparting quality community based medical education through interactive teaching and comprehensive training of students in the field community medicine and public health. Her main focus is, on the development of professional approach to solve the community health problems and train the students to conduct small research projects in order to develop research culture among forthcoming doctors
